Cristiano Ronaldo has acquired a 25 per cent stake in Spanish club UD Almería, the club confirmed on Thursday.
In a statement, Almería announced that Ronaldo invested as part of the ownership consortium led by SMC Group.
The club said the Portuguese star secured his stake through CR7 Sports Investments, a subsidiary of CR7 S.A., marking a significant expansion of both the club’s international profile and Ronaldo’s growing business portfolio.
“This marks a significant step in the continued expansion of both the club and the Portuguese businessman’s investment portfolio,” the statement read.
Almería president Mohamed Al Khereiji welcomed the development, describing Ronaldo as one of the greatest players in football history.
“We are very pleased that Cristiano has chosen to invest in our club. He knows Spanish football very well and understands the potential of what we are building here, both in terms of the team and the academy,” he said.
Ronaldo, 41, said the move aligns with his long-term ambition to contribute to football beyond his playing career.
“It has been a long-held ambition of mine to contribute to football beyond just on the pitch. UD Almería is a Spanish club with strong foundations and clear potential for growth. I look forward to working alongside the leadership team to support the next phase of the club’s development,” he said.
The former Real Madrid CF forward currently plays for Al Nassr FC in Saudi Arabia, maintaining deep ties to Spanish football following his nine-year spell in LaLiga, where he became Madrid’s all-time leading scorer and won multiple domestic and European titles.
