Umar Sadiq made a positive impact off the bench, providing an assist, but it was not enough to prevent Valencia CF from suffering a 3-2 home defeat to Celta Vigo in their LaLiga clash on Sunday.
Sadiq started the match among the substitutes and was introduced in the 63rd minute, replacing Hugo Duro as Valencia searched for a way back into the contest. His presence added urgency to the attack, with the Nigerian forward showing intent and movement in the final third.
Valencia found themselves chasing the game for large periods, as Celta Vigo capitalised on key moments to take control of the encounter. Despite late pressure from the hosts, the visitors maintained their edge and looked set to see out the win comfortably.
However, deep into stoppage time, Sadiq provided a moment of quality, setting up Guido Rodríguez for Valencia’s second goal. The assist injected brief hope into the home side, but it came too late to alter the outcome, as Celta held on to secure all three points.
The contribution marks a modest but important return for Sadiq, who continues to build momentum since making his move permanent. The 29-year-old striker has now recorded one goal and one assist in 11 league appearances for Valencia this season.
Sadiq joined Los Che on a permanent deal from Real Sociedad in January, after previously spending the second half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan at the club. His arrival was part of Valencia’s effort to strengthen their attacking options, with expectations that he will play a more prominent role as the season progresses.
Despite the defeat, Sadiq’s late involvement offered a glimpse of his potential importance to the team, particularly in tight matches where creativity and physical presence in attack are needed.
