Turkish football authorities are set to monitor Wilfred Ndidi closely as the Super Eagles captain faces the possibility of suspension ahead of Besiktas’ next Super Lig fixture.
The midfielder is one booking away from a one-match ban and could be ruled out of Besiktas’ upcoming game against Antalyaspor if he receives a yellow card in Sunday’s high-profile Istanbul derby against Fenerbahce.
According to league regulations in the Turkish Super Lig, any player who accumulates four yellow cards during the season is automatically handed a one-game suspension. Ndidi currently has three cautions to his name and is therefore at risk of triggering the ban.
His disciplinary record this campaign includes bookings in matches against Eyüpspor, Göztepe and Kasımpaşa, placing him on the brink ahead of a crucial fixture.
Despite this, Ndidi has remained a key figure for Besiktas under manager Sergen Yalçın, starting 20 of the 21 matches he has been available for this season.
The Nigerian international has, however, experienced a few interruptions during the campaign. He missed a league fixture in December while on international duty with Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, and later sat out additional matches in January due to injury. He was also granted compassionate leave the following month.
Ndidi is not alone in facing disciplinary setbacks in Turkey this season, as fellow Nigerian internationals Paul Onuachu and Victor Osimhen have already served suspensions after reaching the yellow card limit.
With the Istanbul derby approaching, all eyes will be on Ndidi as he attempts to navigate the match without picking up the booking that could sideline him for Besiktas’ next outing.
