Nigeria’s women’s national team, the Super Falcons, now know their potential opponents in the race to qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games, and the journey is already building intensity.
The Falcons are scheduled to face the winner of the first round clash between Sudan and Comoros in the second round of the qualification series. That opening encounter between Sudan and Comoros is set to take place over two legs between June 1 and June 9, with both sides battling for a chance to move forward.
Whoever emerges victorious from that tie will then go head to head with Nigeria between October 5 and October 13 in what promises to be a decisive fixture for progression.
The qualification campaign itself will unfold across five rounds, making it a long and demanding road for any team hoping to secure a spot at the global event. With only two slots available for African nations in the women’s football tournament, the competition is expected to be fierce from start to finish.
At the previous Olympic Games held in Paris, France, Nigeria featured alongside Zambia as the continent’s representatives, highlighting the high standard required to qualify.
Looking ahead, the 2028 Olympic Games will be staged in Los Angeles, United States, running from July 11 to July 29. For the Super Falcons, the mission is clear: navigate the tough qualification path and return to the Olympic stage once again.
