Transfer Update: Viktor Gyökeres Agrees to Sacrifice €2m Salary to Join Arsenal
Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres is closing in on a high-profile move to Arsenal after agreeing to forgo €2 million of his salary to help push the deal through.
The Swedish forward, who is one of the most sought-after players in the 2025 summer transfer window, has already reached a personal agreement with the Premier League club, and a move is expected to be finalized in the coming days.
Gyökeres has been pushing to leave the Portuguese side in search of a bigger stage in Europe, and Arsenal emerged as the frontrunner after several top clubs showed interest. Reports suggest the 26-year-old even considered going on strike after Sporting initially refused to sanction his departure.
Negotiations between Arsenal and Sporting are now focused on the structure of the transfer fee, with the Portuguese club demanding a higher figure than what Arsenal have proposed.
According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, citing Record, Gyökeres agreed to reduce his earnings to help facilitate the deal.
“Viktor Gyökeres has accepted to give up €2m from his salary in order to facilitate negotiations between Arsenal and Sporting,” Romano reported. “Sporting insist on a higher fee compared to Arsenal’s proposal, and Gyökeres is doing everything possible to make the move happen.”
If completed, Gyökeres would become a major attacking addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
