FC Barcelona have confirmed that teenage sensation Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a hamstring injury.
The 18 year old picked up the injury while converting a penalty during Barcelona’s narrow 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo. Although he completed the decisive moment, concerns quickly grew about his condition afterward.
In an official statement released on Thursday, the club clarified the extent of the issue, revealing that Yamal sustained a problem in the biceps femoris muscle of his left leg. Barcelona also confirmed that he will undergo a conservative recovery plan rather than surgical intervention.
While the news is a major setback for the club, there was some relief regarding his long term fitness. Barcelona indicated that Yamal is expected to recover in time to be available for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, easing fears of a prolonged absence.
Manager Hansi Flick will now have to navigate the final stretch of the campaign without one of his most exciting attacking options. The Catalan side still have six La Liga fixtures remaining as they push to defend their league title.
Yamal is set to miss all remaining matches, including a highly anticipated clash against Real Madrid at Camp Nou on May 10, a fixture that could prove decisive in the title race.
His absence is a significant blow for Barcelona, given his growing influence in the squad this season. Fans will now be hoping the young star makes a full recovery in time for international duty later in the year.
