Akor Adams has urged the Super Eagles to begin immediate and serious preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, warning that delays could cost the team another appearance on football’s biggest stage.
The Sevilla FC striker stressed that building toward the tournament cannot be postponed, insisting that the groundwork must start now and continue consistently over the coming years.
Nigeria’s recent World Cup history has been disappointing. The Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2022 edition after losing to fierce rivals Ghana national football team in the playoff round. Hopes of returning to the global tournament were dashed again ahead of this year’s competition, which will be hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Under head coach Eric Chelle, Nigeria also fell short in the African qualifying playoffs, losing on penalties to the Democratic Republic of Congo national football team in the final round.
Speaking on the team’s future, Adams made his stance clear:
“The preparation starts from now. It starts every day leading up to the World Cup 2030.”
His comments highlight growing concern among players and fans about the need for long term planning, squad development, and consistency if Nigeria is to return to competing at the highest level.
With a new cycle already underway, attention will now turn to how the Super Eagles respond and whether early planning can finally secure their place at the 2030 tournament.
