Nigeria’s Super Falcons will learn their opponents for the African qualifying series for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games Women’s Football Tournament on Wednesday, as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) prepares to conduct the official draw in Cairo, Egypt.
CAF confirmed on Tuesday that the draw ceremony will take place at its headquarters and will be streamed live on CAF TV from 12 noon, allowing fans across Africa to follow the process in real time.
A total of 35 national teams, including Nigeria’s Super Falcons, are expected to participate in the qualification campaign. The competition will be structured across five qualifying rounds, with teams battling through multiple stages before the final two slots for Africa are decided.
Only two African teams will qualify for the women’s football tournament at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, making the qualification process highly competitive and demanding. Every round will be crucial, as teams will need consistency over several matches to secure a place at the global event.
Nigeria, alongside Morocco, represented Africa at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The Super Falcons remain one of the continent’s most successful women’s national teams and will be expected to approach the qualifiers with strong ambition as they aim to return to the Olympic stage.
The draw will determine Nigeria’s first-round opponents and potentially map out their route through the qualification series, which could include several challenging fixtures against other top African sides.
With African women’s football continuing to grow in competitiveness, the qualification path is expected to be tougher than previous editions, with more nations investing in development and aiming to break into the elite group that consistently qualifies for global tournaments.
For the Super Falcons, the draw marks the official beginning of another Olympic qualification journey, where preparation, squad depth, and consistency across all rounds will be key to securing one of the continent’s two available spots.
