Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has hailed Paris Saint Germain as the best team in world football after his side suffered a painful defeat in the UEFA Champions League final.
The Gunners fell short in Budapest despite producing a spirited performance against the French champions, who retained their European crown following a dramatic penalty shootout victory.
Arsenal took the lead through Kai Havertz before Ousmane Dembele restored parity for PSG, with the match ending 1-1 after 120 minutes of intense action.
However, missed penalties from Eberechi Eze and Gabriel ultimately proved costly as Luis Enrique’s men held their nerve to secure back to back Champions League titles.
Speaking after the match, Arteta was full of praise for the newly crowned European champions.
“Congratulations to PSG and to Luis Enrique. They are the best team in the world,” the Arsenal boss said.
The Spaniard’s comments underline the scale of the challenge Arsenal faced against a PSG side that has dominated both domestically and on the European stage this season.
Despite the disappointment of missing out on Champions League glory, Arsenal can still look back on a remarkable campaign after clinching the Premier League title ahead of Manchester City.
For PSG, meanwhile, the victory further cements their status as the dominant force in European football, with Luis Enrique’s side successfully defending the biggest prize in club football.
