Nigeria’s Super Falcons produced their best performance of the tournament so far, defeating Egypt 6-2 to secure a place in the quarter finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The convincing victory in their final Group C match completed an impressive turnaround for the defending champions, who had started their campaign with a shock defeat to tournament debutants Malawi.Going into the match, the Super Falcons knew they needed a strong result to keep their hopes of retaining the continental title alive.
They responded in emphatic fashion, putting on an attacking display that overwhelmed Egypt from start to finish. Nigeria found the back of the net six times while limiting the Pharaohs to just two goals in what became one of the standout performances of the group stage.
The result marked a remarkable recovery for Justine Madugu’s side after their disappointing start to the competition. Following the opening loss to Malawi, the Falcons revived their campaign with a determined 1-0 victory over Zambia despite playing much of the game with 10 players. That resilience carried into their final group fixture, where they combined attacking quality with confidence to book their place in the knockout rounds.
The six goal performance also served as a reminder of Nigeria’s attacking strength and experience on the continental stage. With qualification now secured, the Super Falcons will head into the quarter finals full of confidence as they continue their pursuit of a record extending 11th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.
Attention now shifts to the knockout stage, where Nigeria will await their next opponents. Having recovered from an early setback and finished the group stage on a high, the Super Falcons will hope to build on this momentum as they continue their quest to defend their African crown in Morocco.
