Nigerian forward Peter Olayinka has completed a permanent transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al Wehda, marking another chapter in the experienced striker’s well-travelled football career. The 30-year-old joins the Saudi side after leaving Cypriot club APOEL Nicosia, where he spent the previous campaign and made 14 league appearances, scoring twice.
Olayinka joined APOEL Nicosia as a free agent after ending his previous spell elsewhere and was part of the Cypriot club’s attacking options throughout the season. Despite making a relatively limited number of league appearances, the Nigerian forward provided experience and versatility in the final third before deciding to continue his career in Saudi Arabia.
The move to Al Wehda represents another international adventure for Olayinka, who has built an impressive career across several European leagues. The versatile attacker has previously played in Czechia, Serbia, Cyprus and Belgium, gaining valuable experience in different footballing environments and competitions.
Olayinka enjoyed arguably the most successful period of his career during his time with Czech club Slavia Prague. He became an important figure for the club and helped them establish domestic dominance, winning three Czech First League titles as well as three Czech Cups. His performances in Prague also brought him recognition beyond the Czech Republic and contributed to his reputation as a hardworking and versatile forward.
Before his spell at Slavia Prague, Olayinka also enjoyed considerable success in Serbia with Red Star Belgrade. During his time with the Serbian giants, he was part of teams that secured domestic doubles on two occasions, adding further league and cup honours to his growing collection of trophies.
The Nigerian forward’s ability to operate in different attacking positions has been one of the defining features of his career. His work rate, physical strength and willingness to contribute defensively have allowed him to play in a variety of roles, making him a useful option for coaches seeking flexibility in attack.
His transfer to Al Wehda will now provide Olayinka with an opportunity to experience Saudi Arabian football, a league that has continued to attract players from across Europe and other parts of the world. The Nigerian will be hoping to make an immediate impact at his new club and add more goals and appearances to his career record.
At 30, Olayinka still has significant experience to offer and will be expected to bring both quality and leadership to Al Wehda’s attack. His previous success with Slavia Prague and Red Star Belgrade demonstrates his ability to compete for major domestic honours, while his experience across multiple countries could prove valuable to his new Saudi Arabian club.
The move also continues a career that has seen Olayinka consistently embrace new challenges. From his years in European football to his latest switch to Saudi Arabia, the Nigerian forward has established himself as one of the country’s more experienced players abroad. His next challenge will be to adapt quickly to his new surroundings and help Al Wehda achieve its objectives in the coming campaign.
