Nigeria’s Super Eagles bounced back to winning ways with a 2–1 victory over Lesotho in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying clash on Friday at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, South Africa.
After a goalless first half, the game came alive when captain William Troost-Ekong calmly converted from the penalty spot in the 55th minute to hand Nigeria the lead.
The Super Eagles doubled their advantage in the 80th minute through Akor Adams, who finished off a fine attacking move to give Éric Chelle’s side a comfortable cushion.
However, Lesotho refused to go down quietly, pulling one back just three minutes later through Kalake, setting up a tense finale. Despite the late pressure, Nigeria held firm to secure all three points.
The result lifts the Super Eagles’ confidence after a shaky start to their qualifying campaign, as they now turn attention to their next fixture against Benin Republic in Uyo.
Nigeria need to win their next game on Tuesday to keep their World Cup dream alive.
