Former Chelsea midfielder Andy Townsend has advised Cole Palmer to consider leaving Chelsea in order to rediscover his best form.
Palmer, who has been one of Chelsea’s standout performers since joining the club, is reportedly struggling to maintain the level that defined his breakthrough season at Stamford Bridge. There are also growing rumours linking him with a potential move away from the club, with Manchester United mentioned among possible destinations.
In his first season at Chelsea, Palmer delivered outstanding numbers, recording 42 goal involvements and scoring 18 goals, playing a key role in helping the club qualify for the Champions League and win both the Club World Cup and the Conference League. He has continued to reach double figures this season, but his recent dip in form has raised questions about his consistency and long term future at the club.
Townsend believes the player’s current situation reflects broader issues at Chelsea and suggests the environment may not be ideal for his development at this stage.
He said Palmer may need a fresh start to regain confidence and rediscover his best performances, pointing out that the midfielder could be looking around the squad for leadership and inspiration but may not be finding enough of it.
Townsend also suggested that constant changes within the Chelsea squad could be affecting player stability, with several transfers in and out of the club potentially contributing to frustration among key players.
The discussion around Palmer’s future adds further pressure to an already challenging period for Chelsea as they attempt to rebuild form and stability in the final stages of the season.
