Nigeria women’s national under-17 football team have intensified preparations ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Guinea women’s national under-17 football team, with the team now fully focused on securing qualification for the global tournament.
The Flamingos arrived in Ikenne, Ogun State, after completing the first phase of their camping exercise in Abuja, where the players spent weeks preparing for the high-pressure encounter.
Under the supervision of coach Akeem Busari, the team has continued intense training sessions aimed at sharpening tactics, improving fitness, and building stronger understanding among the players before the decisive fixtures.
The Nigerian side previously played five friendly matches during the Abuja phase of preparations and delivered encouraging performances that boosted confidence within the camp.
The Flamingos are also expected to play more test games in Ikenne as the coaching crew continues assessing the squad before the team travels for the first leg.
One of the scheduled warm-up matches will see the Flamingos face Lakeside Queens F.C. at the practice pitch of the Remo Stars Stadium on Thursday.
The game is expected to give the technical crew another opportunity to test different tactical options and monitor players fighting for places in the squad.
Nigeria will travel to Conakry for the first leg of the qualification tie on Sunday, May 24, before hosting the return leg one week later in Ikenne.
The stakes are extremely high, as the winner across both matches will secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The tournament will be hosted by Morocco later this year, and the Flamingos are determined to book another appearance on the world stage.
With preparations now entering a critical stage, excitement continues to build around the team as Nigerian fans hope the Flamingos can once again make the country proud in international women’s football.
