Arsenal have officially been crowned Premier League champions for the 2025 to 26 season after Manchester City dropped crucial points in a dramatic 1 all draw against Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
The result confirmed what Arsenal supporters had spent weeks hoping for and what now feels like the completion of a long and emotional journey under Mikel Arteta. After 22 years without a league title, the North London club are finally back at the summit of English football.
Manchester City travelled to Bournemouth knowing victory was absolutely necessary to keep the title race alive heading into the final day of the campaign. Pep Guardiola’s side needed all three points to maintain pressure on Arsenal, but the defending champions failed to produce the result required.
Instead, Bournemouth delivered one of the biggest moments of their season.
The home side stunned City when Kroupi Junior opened the scoring with an excellent curling finish past Gianluigi Donnarumma, immediately increasing tension around the title race. Despite controlling possession for large periods, Manchester City struggled to convert their opportunities and looked unusually vulnerable under pressure.
Bournemouth also had chances to put the match beyond doubt. David Brooks missed two major opportunities that could have secured a famous victory for the hosts before Erling Haaland eventually scored a late equaliser for City.
But the goal came too late to change the bigger picture.
The final whistle officially confirmed Arsenal as Premier League champions with one match still left to play.
For Arsenal, the title represents the end of more than two decades of frustration since the club last lifted the Premier League trophy during the famous Invincibles campaign under Arsène Wenger in 2003 to 04.
Since then, Arsenal supporters have experienced years of rebuilding, disappointment and repeated near misses. In recent seasons, the club came painfully close to ending that drought but repeatedly fell short against Guardiola’s dominant Manchester City side.
This season, however, Arteta’s team finally found the consistency and mental strength needed to complete the job.
Arsenal have spent most of the campaign leading the league table and built their success on defensive discipline, organisation and resilience in crucial moments. Even when pressure intensified during the final weeks of the season, the Gunners maintained control of the title race while City struggled to keep pace.
The achievement is particularly significant for Arteta, who arrived at Arsenal during one of the club’s most unstable periods. The former captain inherited a squad lacking identity and direction, but over several seasons he gradually rebuilt the team into genuine title contenders.
That process involved difficult moments, criticism and setbacks, especially after previous title races ended in disappointment. Yet Arsenal continued to improve under Arteta’s leadership and have now been rewarded with the club’s first league title in 22 years.
The Premier League trophy will be presented to Arsenal after their final game of the season against Crystal Palace on Sunday, where celebrations are expected to take over the Emirates atmosphere.
For many supporters, the moment will feel like the completion of a journey that once seemed impossible during the club’s difficult years after Wenger’s departure.
Now Arsenal stand alone at the top of English football once again.
And after finally breaking Manchester City’s grip on the title, attention will immediately turn toward whether Arteta’s side can build a new era of dominance of their own.
