The race to become the next coach of Nigeria’s Under 23 national team is beginning to heat up after experienced tactician Ladan Bosso officially declared interest in the vacant position.
Bosso has now joined former Super Eagles stars Samson Siasia and Daniel Amokachi among the leading names linked with the U23 Eagles coaching role as the Nigeria Football Federation continues searching for a new manager.
The NFF is yet to make an official appointment, but growing interest from some of Nigerian football’s most recognised coaching figures has already increased attention surrounding the position.
Bosso confirmed his interest while speaking publicly about the opportunity, making it clear that he wants to be considered for the job.
“Yes, I’m also interested in the job,” the veteran coach stated.
His declaration immediately places him in direct competition with Siasia and Amokachi, two former international players who also remain strongly connected to Nigerian football circles.
The vacant position is considered one of the most important developmental roles within Nigerian football because of the Under 23 team’s connection to Olympic qualification and the transition of young players into the senior Super Eagles squad.
Whoever eventually gets the job will face enormous pressure to rebuild the team and guide Nigeria back to consistent success at youth and Olympic level competitions.
Bosso arrives in the race with significant experience managing Nigerian youth teams.
He previously handled the Flying Eagles and has spent years working within domestic football structures, giving him familiarity with local talent development and youth competitions across the country.
His experience with younger players could become a major advantage as the federation evaluates possible candidates.
However, competition for the role is expected to remain fierce.
Samson Siasia remains one of the most successful youth coaches in Nigerian football history after previously leading the country to Olympic silver at the 2008 Beijing Games and helping develop several players who later became senior internationals.
Daniel Amokachi, meanwhile, also brings experience from both club and national team coaching roles alongside his reputation as a former Super Eagles star.
The NFF now faces a difficult decision as it weighs experience, tactical philosophy, player development ability and long term vision before naming a new coach.
The federation has not yet indicated when an official announcement will be made, but pressure is likely to increase as upcoming competitions and qualification schedules draw closer.
For Bosso, the opportunity could represent another major chapter in a long coaching career that has already included several roles within Nigerian football.
His interest also highlights how seriously local coaches still value the chance to manage national teams despite the challenges and intense scrutiny that often come with such positions.
Fans are now expected to closely monitor developments as debate continues over which candidate would be best suited to lead the next generation of Nigerian talent.
And with three well known names already in contention, the battle for the U23 Eagles job could become one of the most talked about coaching decisions in Nigerian football this year.
