UEFA has officially released its Europa League Team of the Season following the conclusion of the 2025/26 campaign, with Aston Villa’s dominance reflected strongly in the final selection.
The announcement comes after Aston Villa secured the Europa League title with a commanding 3–0 victory over Freiburg in the final held in Turkey, sealing a memorable European triumph.
As expected, the Technical Observer Group rewarded standout performers across the competition, with Villa emerging as the most represented club in the elite XI.
Unai Emery’s side accounted for four players in the official selection, underlining their consistency and impact throughout the tournament.
The Team of the Season features a balanced mix of performers from clubs that impressed during the knockout stages, with representation from England, Germany, Spain, Portugal and beyond.
In goal, Emiliano Martínez of Aston Villa was selected after a series of decisive performances that helped guide his team to the trophy.
The defence includes Victor Gómez of Braga, Matthias Ginter of Freiburg, Morato of Nottingham Forest and Oscar Mingueza of Celta, all of whom impressed with their stability and defensive contributions during the competition.
Midfield selections went to Maximilian Eggestein of Freiburg, alongside Aston Villa duo John McGinn and Morgan Rogers, both of whom played key roles in Villa’s title-winning campaign.
In attack, the lineup features Antony of Real Betis, Igor Jesus of Nottingham Forest and Emiliano Buendía of Aston Villa, completing a forward line that produced consistent goals and creativity throughout the tournament.
Villa’s strong presence across the team reflects not only their success in the final but also their overall dominance across the entire Europa League season.
Under Unai Emery, the club delivered a tactically disciplined and efficient campaign that saw them overcome some of Europe’s toughest opposition on their way to lifting the trophy.
Freiburg, despite finishing as runners-up, also received recognition through multiple inclusions, particularly in defence and midfield, highlighting their impressive run to the final.
Nottingham Forest also featured twice in the selection, acknowledging their strong performances in the knockout rounds.
The final Team of the Season now serves as a statistical and performance-based reflection of the campaign, with Aston Villa clearly emerging as the standout side of the competition.
And as the dust settles on another Europa League season, UEFA’s selections confirm what the final already showed – Villa’s European triumph was built on balance, discipline and standout individual brilliance across the pitch.
