Rangers have strengthened their squad ahead of the 2026–27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season with the signing of goalkeeper Abuchi Okeke from Kano Pillars. The reigning NPFL champions confirmed that the shot-stopper has signed a two-year contract as they continue preparations for the defence of their league title.
Okeke was a regular performer for Kano Pillars during the 2025–26 campaign, earning a reputation as one of the club’s dependable players between the posts. His consistent displays attracted interest from Rangers, who have now secured his services in a move aimed at increasing competition within their goalkeeping department.
The arrival of Okeke is expected to intensify the battle for the number one jersey at Rangers. Lucky Jimoh was the Flying Antelopes’ first-choice goalkeeper throughout last season’s successful league-winning campaign, but the addition of another experienced goalkeeper provides the coaching staff with greater depth and competition ahead of a demanding season that could include both domestic and continental commitments.
By recruiting an established NPFL goalkeeper with regular top-flight experience, Rangers have reinforced a key area of their squad while ensuring they have quality options available as they look to retain the league title and compete successfully across multiple competitions in the 2026–27 season.
