Nigeria women’s national under-17 football team, popularly known as the Flamingos, have arrived in Ikenne, Ogun State, as preparations gather momentum ahead of their crucial clash against Guinea women’s national under-17 football team in the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The Nigerian side moved to Ikenne after completing the first phase of their training programme in Abuja, where the team spent about one month preparing for the important qualification fixtures.
During their stay in the nation’s capital, the Flamingos participated in five friendly matches as part of efforts to improve fitness, tactical understanding, and team chemistry ahead of the two-legged encounter against Guinea.
Under the guidance of coach Akeem Busari, the team recorded four victories and one draw from those friendly matches, giving the technical crew confidence ahead of the decisive qualification battle.
The Flamingos are expected to continue intensive training sessions in Ikenne in the coming days as the coaching crew fine-tunes the squad before the first leg.
Guinea will host the opening leg of the qualification tie in Conakry on Sunday, May 24, while the return leg will take place one week later at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
The winner across both matches will secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The tournament is scheduled to be hosted by Morocco from October 17 to November 7, 2026.
Nigeria’s Flamingos will be hoping to maintain their strong reputation in women’s youth football by booking another appearance on the global stage as preparations continue ahead of the crucial showdown with Guinea.
